Résumé : L’anglais : lingua franca des institutions internationales

L’anglais s’impose comme la lingua franca des institutions internationales. À l’OCDE, les deux langues officielles sont l’anglais et le français, mais l’anglais y devient hégémonique. Or il est clair qu’être obligés de s’exprimer dans une langue que l’on maîtrise mal fausse considérablement la teneur des débats. De plus un locuteur quasi bilingue adopte plus ou moins consciemment la philosophie de la langue dans laquelle il s’exprime et on a davantage tendance à faire siennes les démarches intellectuelles de l’autre culture.

English imposes itself as the lingua franca of international institutions. At the OECD, the two official languages are English and French, but English is becoming hegemonic. Though clearly, to have to express one’s self in a language that one does not master can distort considerably the debates. Moreover, a speaker nearly bilingual will adopt more or less consciously the philosophy of the language in which he is expressing himself and will have a tendancy to adopt the intellectual approaches of the other culture.
